AI file often reverted back to previous, after a save, save as PDF. (Using Google Drive)

Question

I've been seeing an issue working on ai files. if I save, then save as PDF (for print) - then go back into the ai later, the ai has reverted to previous version, not the exact version saved as the PDF. Getting increaingly frustrated.

A fix seems to be, make a 2nd canvas, and save as 'range' - so the ai remains open. then close and save... but this really inturupts my workflow.

Doesnt seem to happen with photoshop or Indesign - just Illustrator.

The file location is google drive - so, it's like the drive is overwriting. Very strange.

Where's the sync problem lie, is there a setting which can fix this?

Did you save the ai immediately before saving the file as a pdf? (edit: your description might indicate that but I am not completely sure)

Otherwise it seems natural that all the changes performed between the last ai-save and the pdf-save would not be reflected in the ai.
