AI Illustrator Files with text opening up BLANK | "Text Import Options"

Recently I have been facing this issue were certain AI ( illustrator ) files with text seem to yeet itself into a blank file.
The main example for me is: I have this file that is 2.25 by 1.25 sized label I use for letter mail. It has a mock address filled in, live text. I have the base template file saved and duplicate and populate with real addresses to print off as needed. I always go back and remove those extra boards and save the file with the one template and mock address to reuse later. Or close without saving so it remains the same.

As of late, when I go to open the file, I am presented with a popup box saying "Text Import Options" and matter the combination of boxes I tick or untick off, the file opens in a different size ( usually letter size ) and copmpletely blank.

There is no way to revert to my original file, so I end up trashing and remaking it, only for it to meet the same fate sooner or later. Most recently, upon the very next reopining of the file.

It's been driving me crazy and I'd love to find a fix.

Another recommendation: check the disc you're using to store your files for any errors. Bad sectors on traditional hard disc drives can cause problems. USB memory sticks are not very reliable for any long term storage; those things can go bad pretty easily. Solid state drives are more reliable than memory sticks. But even they can go bad eventually.

This means that the file got corrupted.

Do you have a backup?

The 2 things you need to prevent now:

- the file becoming corrupted

- in the event that it still gets corrupted, that this does not ruin your day

If you experience regular crashes: investigate the cause of the crashes and turn that off.

Where do you save your files? Illustrator does not like to save directly to a network server. Better not do that.

Turn off "Save in background". That option can ruin files.

Make backups of your files. Do never rely on one copy of a file alone. Save multiple versions of your files.

Have automatic backups of your system in place such as Apple's Time Machine or similar.

An additional harddisk is always cheaper than having to start from scratch.
