Question

AI Robin 2025 using all of my RAM

Backstory: I just updated from a laptop with 32GB RAM to a desktop with 96GB RAM. One of the reasons for upgrading was 32GB of RAM wasn't enough to run more than 1 file in Illustrator (and I could no longer have multiple programs open), often it would still freeze and crash. Adobe says you only need 16GB of RAM to operate Illustrator.

So flash forward to today, first time using my new overly powerful computer and Illustrator is still using up ALL OF MY RAM. More specifically AI Robin 2025... I have 96GB of RAM... One file open... I'm using effects but this is ridiculous. It's like it sees available RAM and decides it should use it all.

I have gone through every solution I can find online (like turning off background save) and it changes absolutely nothing. I am beyond frustrated. Anybody else having this issue? Or have solutions?

Same problem here. Recently upgraded to Macbook Pro M5 16GB ram,  Mac OS Tahoe 26.1. I work on Illustrator and Photoshop all day for the past 8 years and since this upgrade it is the first time that I am unable to have both illustrator and photoshop 2026 open on my laptop at the same time, this significantly slows down my work. Illustrator uses a constant 8GB memory with one simple file open and the moment I open photoshop, memory pressure hits orange or red and programs stop responding. Very frustrating. Do you have any advise on how to remedy this?
I did not experience this when using previous versions of Illustrator and photoshop on my old late 2015 Macbook Pro with 16GB ram, why is this a problem now?

I’m having a similar issue, with Illustrator (+ AIRobin) eating up way too much RAM. Even without ANY documents open, Adobe Illustrator 2026 is using 6gb of RAM, AIRobin is using 5gb. That’d be WAY too much even if I had a basic illustrator file open. I got on the phone with support but they basically toed the party line and tried to tell me that it was normal for Illustrator to use 11gb when just idling in background. There is obviously a memory leak somewhere.

And yes I tried resetting preferences and all the usual steps. I’ve been using Adobe apps for over ten years; nothing drives me crazier than having a support rep tell me to reset prefs for the 100th time.

My setup:
2021 M1 Macbook Pro (32gb of RAM)
Sequoia 15.7.7
Illustrator 30.4

This is happening to me. I can’t save one of my files, and AIRobin 2026 is using all 64GB of my ram. I used to have no problem saving big files no matter what effects I used.

I turned off Save in Background and now it’s just stuck at 50%.

Hello @Evan1151

I’m sorry to hear you’re having similar trouble with Illustrator. Could you share more details like the version of the OS/Illustrator installed, if this happens with specific files or when a specific folder location, so we can better assist you?

Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @MiaDawnFunk,

Thanks for sharing the details, and I completely understand how frustrating it must be. Illustrator should definitely not be consuming all of your RAM like that. Could you please confirm the exact version of Illustrator 2025 you are running and the operating system details? It would also help to know if this happens with all files or only specific ones that include heavy effects. In the meantime, I'd suggest resetting Illustrator preferences after creating a backup to rule out any corruption in settings: https://adobe.ly/4mLE2Oy. Also try testing in a new user account to see if the behavior is profile-specific and check once in Safe Mode to rule out third-party conflicts.

Please give this a try and let me know how it goes.

Looking forward to your update.

Exactly the same here. The computer becomes useless with the latest Illustrator. THis is ridiculous.
