AI version 23.x selection tools, type tools, & cursors not working properly

I've had nothing but problems with the latest install(s) of Illustrator.

The various selection (arrow) tools, the type tools, and the cursor (when interacting with palettes) don't seem to work the way they used to. They're much pickier about precise positioning, and I often have to click things 3 or 4 times to get them to engage, even when I'm sure I'm hovering right over the correct pixel. The type tool, in particular, seems completely baffling. I sometimes honestly can't figure out how to highlight/select a portion of a text block, and selection seems to lag horribly.

I've looked into various prefs to see if anything can be adjusted, to no avail.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

I can't pinpoint the exact moment this started, but fyi, I'm currently running 23.0.2 on Mac OS 10.14.3 on two different late-model 27in iMacs.
