Align to fixed objects
Is there a way of fixing certain objects within an illustrator file (so that they can't be accidentally moved/resized), while maintaining the ability to align other objects to these fixed objects?

You can lock and unlock object directly on canvas if you toggle on lock object in preferences. Or you can lock layer.
