All large format PDF measurements off by 0.001 of an inch

I'm working in the latest version of Illustrator, opening a PDF dieline file that my colleague created in and exported from Illustrator large format. For whatever reason, the objects that he sized to round measurements are appearing to be off by these miniscule amounts.

For example, this object that he sized to 4" W x 105" H is appearing on my screen as 3.9999" W x 104.9984" H.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue? What could be causing this?

I wasn't able to reproduce this same error in the normal size workspace. When I offset a 100" x 100" shape by 0.25", the resulting shape is 100.5" x 100.5", as it should be. This inaccuracy only happens in the large size workspace, which makes me think it's a bug.

Hi @liamdmcl2,

We are sorry for the trouble. I think it is a known issue and a limitation while working on large size canvas: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/large-sized-canvas-troubleshooting.html

I hope this gives better clarity.

Update here... When I use the Object > Path > Offset feature on a Large Sized Canvas, the resulting shape is off by a small fraction of an inch.

For example, if I start a new Large Size Canvas, create a shape that's 100" W x 100" H, and use Object > Path > Offset of 0.25", the resulting shape is 100.4999" x 100.4999" instead of 100.5" x 100.5".

I think this may be the cause of the error.

Liam,

Your original inaccuracy in the H value went from 105" to 104.9984" which was a wee bit more.

But as I said such small discrepancies occur; that is also known for the normal size Workspace/Canvas.

Math.

What happens if you pump the up arrow to 4 and 105...

Edit: Ooops I see this was posted two months ago, you'll probably have moved on, unfortunately I can't delete reply... so just ignore.

I think it might have something to do with Illustrator taking strokes into account when giving shape sizes.

Like if I create a shape thats 100" wide with a 2pt stroke, and then create an artboard around that shape, the artboard will be 100.0278". I wasn't familiar with this issue when I posted the question.
