Alt+scroll wheel is turning on outline mode while trying to zoom

I don't understand, it used to zoom in... now it zooms in for 1 or 2 clicks, then I get a pop up that says "Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation". I hit ok, and it swaps me to CPU Outline *rips hair out* hhhhhheeeeeeeeeelllllllllppppppp pls ty

I just tried using the zoom tool on the side bar and it did the same thing! I can't function like this :...(
