Am I Remembering Something Incorrectly About a Guide and Ruler Update?

A few months ago, maybe even a year ago, I remember opening Illustrator and seeing a new feature announced. The feature was more or less the ability to create guides automatically from a given shape/vector. I have attached images that show what I mean. Is this feature possible in Illustrator or did I just make up some weird memory?
