An effect I can't seem to get rid of?

Hi guys,

So a while back I put the 'roughen' effect on a bunch of different objects. I've noticed recently that it's defaulted to have every object also have the roughen effect on it. I will then open the appearance tab while selected on the item and the 'roughen' effect will not show up. I have cleared appearance many times but anytime I reapply the black fill the effect shows up again. I've also tried the brushes tab even though I don't have a stroke on the item, and setting it back to Basic does not help.

Thank you.

Hi Monika,

I uploaded it as a interactive PDF and realized the effect is not showing up on the PDF. It is annoying but as long as it's not there when i go to print I guess I'll be fine. I'm not sure you can duplicate the problem if you open it in Illustrator but you can try.

We're not talking about this kind of issue by any chance?

Happens not only on text (zoom into screenshot to see it)

Maybe the effect is being applied to the layer rather than to the object. So anything that is drawn on the layer will receive the same effect. That would also account for why you aren't seeing it on the object. Click on the layer, go to appearance and see if you can clear it there.

Thanks for the info. I selected the layer and then tried but the clear appearance option is grey therefore I am unable to click it.

Please upload that file somewhere and post a link.

In the appearance panel menu check "New Art has basic appearance"

Also: Effects can be applied to the fill only. So if you pick up an objects appearance with the eyedropper, the effect might be "hidden" under the fill
