Question

Any push to contact 3rd party companies for their plugins to be updated?

I'm not sure where to post this but I see no support towards the 3rd party plugins,  so I'll mention it here. I come to rely heavily on illustrator for my job. It's why I pay as much. It gives me many options and capabilities for my projects etc.. However, with this software I also have Roland Camm1 GS-24 for cutting projects via the plug-in that is provided from the 3rd party “CutStudio”. My issue is that this company does not update their needed software when adobe updates theirs. I can understand a week or so but this has caused major issues for my business. I have found a temporary solution by rolling back illustrator to a previous version. However, in doing so, I lose my setting & updates that I pay to use. I believe adobe should apply a system that when a 3rd party doesn't update their plug-ins they are either auto contacted or have a notice on the plug-in managements that it is incompatible for the users. So I and the rest of the CutSuido group could be notified. I wouldn't complain if this wasn't losing me money. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I'm frustrated.

You allow "a few weeks"? That is hopelessly optimistic. I'm a plugin developer and It could easily take 6 months for a deep change. Or it might be so much work the developer gives up, especially if customers expect it for free. This is why you need to plan, stagger and overlap software upgrades, and liaise with ALL your key developers. "Rolling back" should never be needed. Years ago, Adobe made betas available months before, keeping contact with developers. Those days are gone. Now the first the developer knows is a full inbox one morning.

In hindsight right? Your right, I'm not aware of long it takes. But that is a prime example of what should be told to the consumer.

It is up to 3rd party plugin authors to engage with the prerelease program and Illustrator developers. I'm not sure how Adobe could push this further. Have you contacted Roland?

I appreciate the response, this is more than I have gotten with Roland or chat support. I've submitted my fair share of tickets to no evail. There are qute a few forums and subreddits pertaing to this very issue with hundreds of complaints this year alone. I don't expect adobe to "slap the 3rd parties on the wrist" but at the very least have a system that can let the consumer know that particuar version isn't compatible. Especially when you have the option to auto update illustrator.

There is no way Adobe could track the consumers of every plug in and warn them.  Nor could they practically test every plug in. As Doug says above, plug in developers should be engaged with pre release and testing their own plug ins. Even if they choose not to, they should test their plug ins on public releases.

I would always advise turning off auto update and checking the plug in developers site before updating.
