Question

Anyone know what could be causing this issue when relinking files?

Occasionally I will have a file that all the links seem to get to this weird broken state of including massive amounts of clear space at the top of them and all their scales are wildly off. I have not be able to figure out what may be causing this. the links do not have this space in the files.

included 2 photos. one is the graphic prior to relinking it and the other is the skewed graphic after relinking.

Could the problem be caused because you relink to a totally different file type? One is a .png and the other .ai

original AI file is export as a PNG as well as saved as AI. i have seen this problem with files that lose the link due to folder structure change and relink to the original file and it will create this new bounding box. it’s possible file types may be at the root of the issue though.

You may also want to check what the Placement options are in the Links panel when this happens.

What’s weird is that the scaling looks like 1/10 of the original scale. Could it be that this is a Large Canvas document?

original document is a few inches each way. I work in packaging and thats when it occasionally happens. links can get dropped and then relinking to the original file causes this identical skewed bounding box that has the artwork anchored to the bottom with a ton of space at the top.

this particular file, every link does this when relinking. ive had others were only specific links do it
