Question

Anyway to increase character limit on file names?

I work at a design firm so moving our files to a different location off our server is not an option. Unfortunately, our files our buried in a sequence a folders that makes the file name 255+ characters long and I can no longer open them on illustrator.

My desktop is able to support the maximum character limit for files (around 30,000+), but I can’t figure out how to make illustrator play along. The internet says there is no way to bypass this feature on illustrator, but has anyone found out how to do it?

Can I make a request for the developers to remove or least double the character limit???

Thanks in advance!

How do folders end up adding to the Illustrator file names? I don’t understand.

At any rate it would seem like a real pain in the next to deal with files that had names than a hundred or so characters long, much less anything that went beyond the 255 character limit. Previews of the file names would be cut off in either Windows File Explorer or Finder in OSX.

Hello @Noah35701814cgnb

Thanks for reaching out. Could you share more details, like the versions of the OS/Illustrator installed, along with a screenshot of the error message and the file path, so we can check this with the team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
