Hi,

Someone sent me an .ai file with an embedded photo. I need to open that photo in Photoshop to see if its hi res and what DPI.

Is there anyway to do that without having a link of the actual file?

Thanks!

The un embed feature is on the links panel. But if you do not have the original file..you cannot un embed it!

    Best way to do it:

    1. call the person and tell him to send you the file

    2. Screen shot of the file and than use it!

    3. You got to have the File in order to un embed it!!

    Hope this help!

Of course you can unembed the file if it's embedded.

It just creates the file for you as .psd or .tif

If you don't want to un-embed the file, go to the properties panel, expand the panel and you will have all the info about the image that you need. Just like the InDesign panel about an image. See attached. If you don't have the newest version installed, then when you select the image, it shows on the top menu.

if you have recent version of Illustrator go to links palette and choose unembed....

if not you can select the photo and Copy then new document  in photoshop, accept the values and paste

Choose the embedded image in the Links pallet, then choose Unembed from the Links Pallet menu
