Question

Area Extended Font looks different

Hey there!

I’m encountering a slight discrepancy when using the Area Extended font family. Despite clearing the font cache, reinstalling the fonts, and even doing a fresh install of all Adobe apps, I’m still getting a thinner version than expected.

The only way I can get the weight correct again is if Im using the variable version of the font, but I am using the fonts for After Effects as well which will create issues in formatting if using a variable font

Has anyone run into this issue or know of a fix? Really appreciate any help—thanks in advance!

Hi @default221656423v21zb,

I tried reproducing the issue on my end using Area Extended (Black), but I couldn’t spot a major difference. To help me dig deeper, could you let me know which version of Illustrator and operating system you’re currently using? Also, does this thinner appearance show up in other apps too, or is it just in Illustrator?

Also, when you're using the non-variable version, is it only the Regular weight that looks thinner, or are other styles affected as well?

If possible, it’d be super helpful if you could share the exact text settings you’re using (like the weight/style selected), and a quick screen recording showing the difference between Illustrator and After Effects with the same font. That would really help us understand what’s going on.

Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek
