Arrow Tool Going Berserk!

Hi everybody, it’s probably something really obvious but my arrow tool, the black one, is behaving very strangely. Whenever you click on a shape it is splitting it. You get a little white rectangle icon next to the black arrow. When you click on text fields duplicates it. Clicking on certain shapes divides it (if they are overlapping other shapes) so when you delete it only part of it disappears! I don’t know what is going on! Can anybody help? Thanks.

Correct answer Jacob Bugge

Gareth,

It sounds as if it could be a corrupt document; often it is possible to rescue some or all of the artwork by copying parts into a new document and testing whether things work there, much as you have done with one chord diagram.

This can be done in portions, maybe starting with half of them, continue if it works and try the other half if it fails, and so on.

Please tell us about your system and the extensions you have installed in the system.

I have no extensions that I’m aware of. I assume what is happening would happen in any operating system. I have Illustrator 2023 on a Mac with OS Monterey. I have now noticed that this only happens in one file, or what I mean is, in another file this doesn’t happen! I think it’s that file that has something different about it.
