When a layer is coloured (grey in this instance) the artboard name/number information is obscured. Please fix. It's only when the view is at certain sizes. But still it need fixing so. See image.
@richardesignerUK Yes, the names become invisible when the artboards have a certain percentage of grey and when artboards are positioned very close to each other and when zoomed out.
It is difficult to please everyone, when the artboards have a distinct color and are very close to each other, the name displays on the bottom of the artboard above. This is solved when the name is inside the artboard, but some find that distracting.
It would take a lot of Preferences settings to please everyone.
Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear you're experiencing this. I tested the behavior on Windows 11 with Illustrator 30.6, but I wasn't able to reproduce it on my end.
Could you please share your exact Illustrator version (Help > About Illustrator) and your operating system and version? It would also be helpful if you could check whether the issue occurs with GPU Performance both enabled and disabled, whether changing the layer color (for example, red, blue, or green instead of gray) makes any difference, and whether the same behavior occurs in a brand-new document with multiple artboards.
If possible, please also share a short screen recording showing the artboard labels becoming obscured as you zoom in and out. That will help us investigate this further.
