Artwork Losing Quality Once Exported as JPEG

Hello,
I am trying to split an object into two vertical halves, and the easiest way I know how is to export the artwork as a JPEG and slice the JPEG. 

The problem is that when I go to export the artwork as a JPEG, it loses a lot quality and becomes blurry and pixilated. Photos attached to show what I mean.

Correct, use Tiff, PNG OR PSD for lossless compression.
