Artwork Missing After Saving and Reopening Illustrator File

I am working on a big 6 foot by 8 foot project. It is large, yes, but Illustrator never gave me issues with these kind of files.

Whenever I save the file, locally, on my laptop, I then re-open it to a state that is not what I left it in. It’s blank, only showing a 5th of all the elements I designed. It is infuriating.

Fix it plz

Do you save it in a cloud (synched) folder like dropbox?

    Hi @Synthoras9292,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear you're running into this issue. I'd like to help investigate this further. Could you please let us know the exact version of Illustrator you're using? Also, when you reopen the file, could you check if the missing artwork is visible in View > Outline (Ctrl+Y) or if it may be on hidden or locked layers?

Please also confirm whether Create PDF Compatible File (in the Illustrator Save panel) was enabled when you saved the document. If it was, try opening the .ai file in Adobe Acrobat and check whether the missing artwork is visible there. Additionally, please disable Save in Background under Edit > Preferences > File Handling, create a new Illustrator document, copy the visible artwork into it, save it with a new name, and then reopen it to see if the issue persists.

If you're able to reproduce the issue, could you please share the affected AI file (or a reduced sample that demonstrates the problem) so we can investigate whether it's related to file corruption or a save issue? If the file is confidential, feel free to share it with me via DM using any cloud-sharing service such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

Please let us know the results, and we'll be happy to continue investigating with you.

    Abhishek
