Question

Auto-show hidden panels not working on macOS

I want to disable the automatic opening of panels so that they do not interfere with the view, but this option does not work, and after restarting Tlustator automatically turns on again without my permission. I thought that all the settings were not saved, but no, I configured a lot of other things, and everything was saved. But the panel settings do not care. How can I prevent panels from opening?

And one more thing, maybe this is the reason. Every time I start the program «««««Adobe Illustrator 2026.app» wants to access data from other programs. If you keep the data of the programs separately, it is easier to manage privacy and security. ≥≥≥≥≥≥≥ It does not matter whether I allow or deny, but still, the next time I start, it asks the same thing again. Reinstalling Illustrator did not help.

You likely have a permissions issue on macOS, which is why both problems happen.

    1. Panels not saving

Illustrator can’t properly write its preferences.

    Fix:

    • Reset preferences: hold Cmd + Option + Shift while opening Adobe Illustrator
    • Turn off Preferences → General → Sync Settings
    • Save your workspace manually (Window → Workspace → New Workspace)

    2. Repeated “access data from other programs” prompt

    macOS is not remembering permissions.

    Fix:

    • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access
    • Add and enable Adobe Illustrator 2026
    • Run in Terminal:

      tccutil reset All com.adobe.illustrator

    • Make sure Illustrator is in /Applications

Thanks for the reply, Nick. The message during startup disappeared, but the "auto show hidden panels" option still doesn't save the settings, and again, after restarting Illustrator automatically changes this setting.

    Do this:
    Turn OFF Auto-Show Hidden Panels
Go to Window → Workspace → New Workspace
    Save it (new name)
    Re-select it, then Reset Workspace
    If it still doesn’t stick:
    Quit Adobe Illustrator
    Delete:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.illustrator.plist

    Reopen and set it again
