So i created a simple print in illustrator and when exported to png it completely darkens the entire image!! Why??? Help!

This is just the screen representation of the transparent background in your PNG file. Jpegs are flat files without the capability to have transparency hence the white background. You can test the PNG by placing it in a print file with a colour behind to check if the colours shows through.
