brushes not working with blob brush tool

I have imported a custom brush tool. I can use it with the normal brush tool however for the blob brush tool it doesnt work. I also noticed that I can't seem to use any other brush (even the ones that comes with illustator itself) with the blob brush it only allows me to use the basic brush. I've searched around and saw that maybe disabling "Keep Selected" will help but it didn't and I couldn't find any other solutions. Any ideas on how I could fix this?
