Bugs with graphic styles: 3d inflate
Hi everyone, I recently had some issues with graphic styles and thought I should let you know how I fixed it.
While I was wrapping up on a project this morning I came across an issue with a graphic style (including a 3d inflate effect) I had saved.
I tried to move a group with that style and its appearance completely changed into a copy of another (unrelated) object. I then tried the transform again on a backup file and the group disappeared entirely.
Looking into the graphic styles window, the thumbnail was all glitchy, and when I tried to save the original object as a new style it just showed up like that again. Both happened after the "rendering '3d and materials" pop-up closed.
Both of the files were showing up like this in my adobe library, and they were still like that when I restarted the program and opened them again. So I was worried that I'd messed up the whole layer, maybe even the whole project.
I managed to recover an earlier version of the file but I thought I should let someone know that this happened in case it's a common issue.
I think it was because I was using a lot of memory and my CPU use was 100%. If anyone else is working on a slower computer (PC in my case) please save an extra copy of your file before you mess around with 3D effects.
If this happens to you:
- save as: (with a different file name)
- locate the application in task manager, select it and click 'end task'.
- reopen the file in illustrator (it may still look all messed up, that's okay.)
- if thumbnails are looking normal try to reapply the graphic style.
- If this isn't cutting it, repeat these steps, but instead of just ending the app with task manager, try to restart your computer before opening the file again.
If this doesn't work follow [Removed by moderator] to recover a previous autosave/backup or contact adobe directly.
If you lose your work due to a bug like mine, don't panic. It's a fairly easy fix 🙂
