Question

Can gradients be interpolated linearly only?

I am not referring to the shape of the gradient (radial, conical, etc) but rather how a color and its opacity is interpolated to another. Afaik it's only possible to interpolate linearly, is this correct? Thank you.

I don't know how Illustrator gradients are calculated.

If it is linear, it is different from the linear in Photoshop.

Actually all of the gradient interpolation methods in Photoshop are different when compared to Illustrator (and InDesign).

I never managed to create smooth gradients, not without adding some blur on top of it later.

I don't know why it's got to be this way. This goes from 0 to 100 to 100 to 0 opacity and the transition is super harsh compared to other programs. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I am using Illustrator right now but it's even worse in PS (regardless of the setting used).

Looks more like a question for the Photoshop forum, I can get smooth gradients.
