Can I bend complex vector objects like in Inkscape?

I am completely new to Illustrator and need to know is this possible or not. A picture is worth 1000 words a Youtube video also. This video shows perfectly what I want to do: Path Blend - Inkscape 0.46-devel - YouTube

in a few different ways, yeah. the one i think is most comparable to that might be to make an art brush out of it:

OK, so I see, there is no such possibility like in Inkscape to do it straight.
