Can I edit a swatch and automatically update all affected fills with the change?

I live painted several squares with a swatch that uses a gradient of the same color to create a transparent fill. I wish to change the color used in the gradient and have all live-painted fills automatically update with the change, but it doesn't seem to work like that.
