Can someone digitally fold the attached layout template (in PDF) for me? It should look something like the attached jpg, which is the prototype of my packaging.

    Haugen,

    To create the top view of the folded chocolate box, corresponding to the envelope JPEG, is quite simple.

    Its outer shape coincides with the bottom of the box which forms the central rectangle.

    Obviously, being vertical, the four sides round the bottom will be invisible.

    The side flaps, positioned outside the sides forming the ends of the box, will be invisible except for the outermost parts by the corners because they will be covered by the top and bottom flaps. Therefore their intricate entanglement will be hidden. The reason their outermost corner parts will be visible is obviously that the sides forming the ends of the box are a wee bit lower than the long sides.

    The outermost part of the top flap will obviously go beneath the bottom flap beyond the slit, just as in the envelope JPEG.

    You need to leave out the side parts and work with the bottom and the four flaps as separate paths with both Stroke and Fill.

    You could build it like the actual folding where all he flaps are reflected, but since the entanglement of the end flaps will be hidden, there is no need to.

    The simplest way is as follows, starting with the bottom rectangle at the centre and the four flaps at their original positions round it, and simply moving each flap separately, Smart Guides being your friends:

    1. Lock the bottom rectangle in place;
    2. Select each end flap and ShiftClickDrag it sideways by the side (or one of the corners) closest to the bottom rectangle until it snaps to the opposite side/corner of the bottom rectangle (Smart Guides will say path/anchor when you are within snapping distance);
    3. Select the bottom flap and ShiftClickDrag it upwards by the top side (or one of the top corners) until it snaps to the top side/corner of the bottom rectangle (Smart Guides will say path/anchor when you are within snapping distance); SEE NOTE;
    4. Select the top flap and ShiftClickDrag it downwards by the bottom side (or one of the bottom corners) until it snaps to the bottom side/corner of the bottom rectangle (Smart Guides will say path/anchor when you are within snapping distance);
    5. Cut the top flap at the slit in the bottom part and delete the outermost part that will be hidden (you can cut the flap at the slit with the Scissors Tool, Smart Guides will say intersect when you are within snapping distance, then delete the outer part and Join the ends of the remaining inner part); SEE NOTE;
    6. Select everything and rotate by 180 degrees.

    Step 3 and 4 will make the box appear upside down, and step 6 will correct this, so that the (top and bottom) flaps end up appearing folded from their original positions.

    The steps are shown in the image set below, along with the dotted lines mentioned in the NOTE.

    NOTE; The green and blue dotted lines show a mismatch, namely that the slit should be moved inwards on the bottom flap to make it fit the outermost narrow part of the top flap when closing the box. There may be a similar mismatch of the end flap details. The safest way to ensure that the chocolate box is actually right is to:

    Print the chocolate box and cut out the flaps, then place each flap pair on top of the central bottom and see whether everything fits.
