Question

Can't align individual points with direct select tool anymore?

In previous versions of Illustrator, you could select two (or more) points along a line with the Direct Select Tool and have the points align from the alignment panel. I upgraded to  Illustrator 25.4.1, and can no longer do this. The only option is to align to the artboard. Even when I select "Align to Selection", it aligns it to the artboard instead.

Is this a bug? Is there a fix? Do I need to do something different? This is extremely frustrating - I align points A LOT.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same problem as kfroms27. Did you ever get it sorted out? It's extremely annoying!

It's working fine for me - try resetting your preferences.

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble. I am unable to replicate this issue at my end in Illlstrtor v25.4.1. I would request you to please share a few more details like:

  • Operating System
  • A small video demonstrating the issue could be really helpful.
  • Are you using a shift key or using the mouse to select anchor points?
  • Is the issue related to a specific document?
  • Could you please share a sample document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Also, you may try running the app in Safe Mode (Mac/ Windows) and see if it works there.

We are here to help. We just need more information.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
