Can't Change Font of a text once inside a Group?

Hello, I'm struggling to figure out why the "character" panel/tab/window (what's it officially called?) is missing once I add text inside a group. Shown are both cases, where it appears once I'm outside a group, but dissappears once inside one. Any ideas? 🙂

I am experiencing the same issues with the newest version of Illustrator.

The properties panel is designed to operate contextually. This means that it will adapt its contents to the major needs of the current function and not show functions that are not needed in the current situation. The property panel is a relatively new feature and many seasoned users (myself included) prefer not to use it at all. Rather, I've found that setting up my panels in a configuration that suits most of my needs for work is far more comfortable and reliable. Any additional panels that I might need can then be opened (and subsequentally) closed as needed.

Weird. I can't reproduce this.

Which tool do you have selected?

If it still doesn't work, you can just open Window > Type > Character/Paragraph/...

Thanks! It was actually under my nose the entire time. Next to "Paragraph" on the bottom is the "Character" tab.  Bill just mentioned it's located differently because the "Properties" panel is contextual. Very interesting.
