can't change percentage in color panel

hello,

I used line segment tool to draw a line.

I clicked on the color panel and tried typing 75 % on the black box. it changes the color in the little swatch box in color panel but not the actual line.

how can I change the color to 75, 40 etc. even when I dragged the slider all the way to white, nothing happened.

    One reason may be that an additional stroke is applied at the layer level.

    What do you see in the Appearance palette if you target the layer in the Layers palette (click the bull's eye on the right-hand side of the layer name)?
