Can't delete swatch. Shows up in all files. Invincible swatch.

Hello, I am using Illustrator 2023 27.7.  I created a spot color swatch a while back and now I can't delete it (it is not present in a linked file, it even shows up in empty documents.) When I highlight it and delete it, it disappears for a moment and then reappears. I've tried to delete it with the delete key, dragging it to the garbage, selecting all unused swatches and deleting.... nothing works. I also opened its swatch options, changed it to a Process Color, changed other attributes, but when I click ok, the old spot swatch just reappears magically.

If I go to File>New, or New from Template and create a new file, any new file has this same swatch. Old files I haven't touched in years have this swatch now when I open them.  It's everywhere and I can't get rid of it.  Any thoughts?  Thank you in advance for any help!

If your fried can delete the swatch and you can't, then:

when was the last time you rebooted the computer?

When was the last time you reset the preferences?

You should definitely investigate the New document profiles. Just to rule it out.

Try to find these swatches in Illustrator directory abd delete them manually. They are located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator\Presets\en_US

Thanks for the reply.  The swatch shows up in every single swatch file in the folder you mentioned, but you can't delete it from any of them. If you delete it, it pops back up again a moment later.

You have probably put it into your custom New document profile.

As for everything else it would be necessary to take a look at a sample file.

Thanks for the reply. I don't use document profiles. I do use templates occassionally, but I did not save this swatch in a template. That also would not explain why it won't delete. Or why it shows up in old files that haven't been opened in ten years.  I sent an empty file which had the swatch to a friend and they said they could see the swatch, but they could actually delete it.
