Can't drag & drop ends to pattern brush

Or even select certain patterns for the end.

I figured out the problem for selecting the end, it takes from fill patterns, not brush patterns. However it is misaligned slightly and I would still like to know why I can't just drag and drop a shape and how I could do so.
