Can't drag files into trash.

I select and drag and the + sign comes but the file doesn't

    What version of Illustrator and what operating system are you using? Are you dragging from a open window on your desktop? Please be specific as to how you're trying to do what you want to do. If you're on a Mac you can try clicking on the file you want to move and using the keyboard command Command-Delete.

    The version Illustrator is 22.1  and it's a mac using OS Sierra. 

    I tried command -delete and it didn't work.

    I will admit I'm not too skilled at this.  I have several files that need to go.  I keep trying to select and drag but they just stay put?  Not sure what else to say?
