can't edit a file when I save as PDF

hello community! i need help please.

i always used to save (some) illustrator files as PDF files.

now, when i open a pdf file, all objects are grouped and in clipping masks.

recently even all text fields are filled with numbers and glyphs instead of the text i saved a few hours before (see image)...

Usually the pdf file with "preserve illustrator editing capabilities " turned on is larger than when this feature turned off.

one more note, are you trying to open the pdf file or placing the pdf file into a new document?

Did you check the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checkbox?

Did you open it in the same Illustrator version as it was saved?

because these settings are default i guess, right?
