Can't edit a simple shape

I'm having a problem with the points on a shape not showing up or selecting. Hence, I can't edit it. The black arrow will select the object and when I use the white arrow for direct selection tool it doesn't seem to select it, although I can move the shape around.  Is the problem in my computer?  I was having trouble clicking on email links, but I have the same trouble when I changed the mouse.  I'm on a mac OS using Catalina and Illustrator 27.9.4.

Ideas?

Poouster,

Ctrl/Cmd+H is the keyboard shortcut that toggles between View>Show Edges and View>Hide Edges..

It is probably a keyboard mishit for a nearby keystroke shortcut that seemingly failed to work, and your failing to realize that something else may have happened, then just trying again and getting it right and forgetting about it.

Ctrl/Cmd+H is probably the most frequent keyboard mishit of all, completely surrounded by other keyboard shorcuts, closing in on all sides.
