Can’t edit pdf in Illustrator

I'm able to edit some features of my pdf file in acrobat, but I'm trying to use Illustrator to edit my pdf but when I upload the file the format is all wrong. I tried using the .eps file type when saving it in acrobat, I able to see the file clearly but I still can't edit it. I'm using the adobe illustrator cs5. Could that be the problem?

Probably when opening the PDF in Illustrator there are several clipping masks. They would need to be released: Object > Clipping mask > Release

Check it out in the Layers panel.

But you could also be outof luck and it's rasterized. In that case you won't be able to edit it. That depends on where and how it has been created.

Ahh, I see! So would the Illustrator version matter? Because I use the CS5
version and I'm still not able to edit. Would CS6 cause the same problem?

Yes.

Illustrator is not a general prupose PDF editor. You get what you get. And what you get is most probably inside several clipping masks that you have to release.
