Can’t insert image to illustrator on my ipad

I keep trying to insert images from my iPhoto library into new and existing projects and it’s just coming up as an empty rectangle. I’ve tried restarting the app and the iPad, have even waited overnight and it’s still doing it. I’ve never had this issue before.
