Question

Can't open illstrator file

I ran into a bit of a snag with the project. Unfortunately, I can't seem to open the Illustrator file that we were working on. I've tried a few different methods, but nothing seems to be working. It's after I updated Adobe Illustrator beta.

I'm not sure if the file is corrupted or if there's some other issue, but I wanted to let you know as soon as possible. I'm going to keep trying to troubleshoot and see if there's anything I can do to get it open.

In the meantime, is there anything else that I can work on? I don't want to hold up the project any longer than necessary. Let me know if there's anything that I can help with while we sort out this issue.

Hello @T.30804739ba8k,

Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing with opening your Illustrator file after updating it to the beta version. In addition to Monika's suggestions, could you please provide more information about which specific beta version you updated and share the screenshot of the error? Additionally, if possible, could you share the Illustrator file with us so that we can take a closer look and assist you in troubleshooting the issue?

Feel free to let us know any other details about the file or your troubleshooting efforts. We're here to help!

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

First of all: make a copy of the file.

Then you can try if you can still open it in Acrobat. If tha works, you can create a new file in Illustrator and File > Place. Not a lot of what's inside will be fully editable.

Also: who is we? If that includes other persons: can they open the file?

If the file is on a server, try and first move it to your computer, then open.

And also: please come up with a backup strategy. Always make copies of your files. Save different versions. Turn on Time Machine (or the equiovalent on Windows). And turn off "Save in background" in the Illustrator preferences.

I'm going to tag @Anshul_Saini  - can you please try and rescue the file?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
