Question

Can't save my file "the dimensions of this page are out-of-range"

I have a page that has an artboard 486px wide x 1px wide. I can see it sitting in the middle of document and all is well.

However whenever I try and save the file, I cannot, with this error:

"The dimensions of this page are out-of-range"

any help would be appreciated

It's one pixel wide?

That may be your issue. It's too small.

You are trying to save it as an AI file?

my ai has multiple artboards, some are entire webpages, one is a strip I want to export as 1px for use in HTML eSignature.

So just to confirm, Illustrator simply does not allow the saving of a file that has an artboard of 1px deep inside it, regardless of the sizes of the other artboards?

Either AI or PDF. You can test that (I would need to test it as well):

either:

- uncheck the option "PDF compatible" when saving

or

-make that artboard bigger

Start by checking your document's DPI setting. AI internally still works based on inches, not pixels and using a high DPI setting with web graphics apparently would result in infinitessimally small fractional inch values that may cause AI to think they do not produce visible pixels.

Is the DPI controlled via the Document Raster Effect settings or elsewhere?

I changed Document Raster Effect Settings to 72dpi (it was 300) but I still couldn't save it.
