How do I fix this error message? I tried changing the settings to read and write but nothing happened. Im still getting the same message.

Without a better explanation and critical details like actual system information, what version of Illustrator, where you are savcing the file using what options and so on nobody can even guess. You need to be much more specific.

Getting the same thing in Illustrator now after CC updates and Mac OS Update.

Adobe AI Version. 26.2.1

Mac OS Monterey 12.3.1

Saving files to a 6TB Seagate External Drive. This has been working for a year with no issues.

Just doing a general "Save" after making some revisions to the file.
