Can you save a repeat grid as a 'classic' pattern?

I really love the repeat functions in the new Illustrator, especially the repeat grid.

I was wondering though if you could transport it somehow into a 'classic' pattern fill, making it compatible with earlier versions of Ai.

You can not easily transfer it.

You would need to expand the repeat and then set it up as a pattern.

There is another alternative: multiple instances of the transform effect.

Most of the Repeat Grid options are also available in the Pattern maker (Object menu > Pattern > Make)

The flip horizontal/vertical is not available in there is it?

Anyway it would be fantastic to have an easy way to transfer it into a pattern swatch, it's so much better a tool than working with the pattern > make.

Yes, that is missing, but there is nothing you can't do in the Pattern maker combined with the Apperance panel that can be done with the repeat options.
