Can you ungroup a pattern you make with the new Repeat feature?

Can you ungroup a pattern you make with the new Repeat feature?

If I add a circle and using the repeat tool make 8 instances of it, how can I change the color of each of those new circles, so each circle is a different color?

I can't ungroup them, or at least I have found a way. 

Any help would be great - thanks.
