Question

Cannot add new brushes with ABR files

I am relatively new to illustrator and I'm trying to add some new brushes I've downloaded. I tried adding the files through the "Other Brush Library" but I get an error message saying that it is in an unknown format and its styles cannot be imported. Does Illustrator no longer accept ABR files? If so how can I get new brushes?

ABR are Photoshop brushes. Illustrator never accepted them.

I'm not familiar with the ABR format. Google suggests they are Photoshop brush files. Are you saying that, at some point, Illustrator was able to use Photoshop brushes? I don't think that was ever the case.

Illustrator brush libraries should appear as simply AI files.

That very well may be the case, like I said I am rather new to illustrator. I think I was mislead when I searched for illustrator brushes and found ABR files instead. Is there any resource where I could find the proper AI file brushes?

Maybe include the term "vector" in your search query.

    The free ones: https://www.creativebloq.com/illustrator/best-free-brushes-111517762/2

A lot of other blogs list basically the same brushes.

And then there are websites such as envato or designcuts, creativemarket or retrosupply where you can buy brushes.
