Cannot click on anything in Illustrator

Using windows 10 64 bit with illustrator 24.0.1 64 bit.  After working on my files for a hour or two all of a sudden Illustrator wouldn't let me click on anything.  Cannot select/copy/menu/close or do anything at all.  Only way to resolve it is to task manager kill illustrator.  No prompt for crash or "not responding" in the title bar.  I have tried resetting preference/deleting folder as well as fully uninstalling and reinstally to the lastest version.  Tried updating windows/gpu drivers as well as disabling GPU display.  GPU is a nvidia 2060.  This problem never happened when I was using windows 7 on an AMD GPU.  I work with chinese characters using adobe provided fonts.
