Cannot place a DXF file

Simple enough problem as the title says, I can't place DXF files as they "are in a format which can not be placed". I get these files from another sorce so I can't save them as something else personally without opening other programs. I have to do a lot of these in a day so its impractical to convert everything and it would be nice to simply be able to import (place) them as DXFs.

I've seen this problem other places on the forum but havent seen any practical solutions.

My AI is not only up to date it is freashly installed.

Any guidance on this would be helpful. Thanks.

There's a million flavors of DXF/ DWG and without knowing the exact version and what data types they containwe can't really tell you much. That said, chances of fixing this without converting/ re-saving the files are pretty slim, so perhaps it's the best to just see it through and sit down with a nice cup of coffea or tea and sacrifice an hour of your day to do the conversion. Otherwise the only real "solution" would be to advise the client to use other file save options/ a different file format, at least in the future.

Thanks for the feedback! I will try and see if the source will make a change for me. Its not a client but an older employee set in his ways unfortunatly.
