Cannot rename grouped objects with mouse click

I'm sure that the answer is staring me in the face....

I'm using Illustrator CS6 on both work and home PCs.  At work, I'm able to left-click my mouse on a group in the layers pane to rename it.

The problem is at home, mouse clicks (left, right, and double) do nothing at all...  The row is selected, but it doesn't highlight the name in order to change it.  The only way I can rename a given group is to go to the drop-down menu at the top right corner of the pane and select "Options for {group}..."  So I can get the job done, but it's a pain.

I've tried to mimic all of my preferences between work and home, but nothing seems to change it.  Isolation mode doesn't effect this.
