CC linked assets / unlinked assets help

Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to get my Illustrator library assets to work as they did when the feature was first introduced.

I want to be able to add a vector to the library and then be able to use it in another doc as a vector that I can change and edit freely.

I understand that I can click “edit” on a library asset and then copy that vector into my file but that defeats the whole purpose of the feature. At that point, I might as well just keep all my commonly used vector shapes in one giant .AI file that I can just go copy out of.

Does anyone know if what I’m looking to do is even possible anymore???

Try holding down the Alt key while dragging the asset to the new artboard. It should give an editable object.
