Question

Center alignment not working when objects are grouped

Hello community,

I'm having a bit of a conundrum. I have a design element which when made into a group, will not center align on the page. Instead, when I hit center, it moves to the right, and hitting it again moves it to the right incrementally until it is right against the right side of the artboard. For example, I manually place the element as center as I can (eyeballing it), then hit center. The group moves two inches right, hit center, moves 1 inch, hit center, moves 1/2 inch, hit center, moves 1/4 inch, etc. I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on. I've made sure to unhide everything, made sure that it is set to "align to artboard", etc. Text is all outlined. All design elements are closed geometry. It only happens when I group the items together. Ungrouped, each item will move to the center correctly.

Anyone else know what is going on?

Would be very helpful to see a screenshot of your selection, and your align palette, for us to assess what exactly you are set to.

There have been surprisingly similar issues with GPU preview, which you can command E to toggle on and off.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

I know some issues with the Align palette if one is trying to align groups that contain (nested) clipping paths, but there may be other reasons as well.

Can you share a sample .ai file, so one can take a look at the issue?
