Challenging desigtn to reproduce

I am hitting a wall. I spent all day trying different things, Blends, wide dotted strokes, Art / Pattern brushes and Effects but nothing "works".
Any idea how I could come up with a shape like this:

It was the work of Benno Wissing, a designer.
The thing that bugs me is that the "pointed arrows" are not "concentric"? Meaning if I try to rotate a shape around some axis, I'd have to "move" the center of rotation as well. That can't be done in the Effects > Transform & Distort command. It's a nice design which I'd love to show my students.

I think this artwork use illusion and it has consist from one object (repeated radial) and two object black and gray that overlap this object.

I don't think it was created with AI, Benno Wissing died in 2008

The only way I found is to manually draw every stroke, doing half od the figure, and then applyting an "arrow" kind of profile and assigning decreasing stroke values, from 6pts to 5.5 to 5 to 4.5 to 4 to and so on. There has to be a better way...

I use triangle, rotation, 3 object , gradient and some blends. You can see also outline. May be I am doing something wrong, but I think I am close to get this illusion.

Create black triangle and make radial rotation
Create two object with gradient and overlap triangle. The black color must flip white for one and vs for another object.
In center put white ellipse.
