Change a Illustrator file name in my folder and can't open it

Hi, I just saved my file and decided to change my Illustrator file name in the folder (Windows user). When I tried to open it again after a couple of hours, it got stuck on a black screen, and Illustrator stopped working. Can anyone help me?

Hi, I updated to the newest version yesterday on Creative Cloud, and it seems not to work either, so I have decided to open a different administrator and try to open it; it worked (I have had similar issues before, and this is the solution). So I moved the important stuff from the old file to a new one and continued my work. And now the problem seems to be solved, but I will post future similar problems here if I encounter them again. Thanks!

Do you have Windows File Explorer settings enabled to show file type suffixes, such as ".AI" for Illustrator files? If you renamed the file without including the file type suffix it's possible the file might have lost its application association. You can right-click on the file and check Properties from the flyout menu. The Properties dialog box should display the full file name with its suffix (if it has one) and its associated application (if there is one).

If the file name is lacking a proper dot-suffix you should be able to simply rename it again, adding the .AI after the file name.

Hi, I tried that method too, but it didn't work, so I just moved my old file to a new one like I told the guy before. Thanks a lot!

Hello @default3nipfc5necxc,

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/Illustrator installed on your device, and a screenshot/a screen recording of the problem, so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
