Question

Change default file format when saving...?

Hi all! I just upgraded to version 30.0 yesterday on my iMac. Up until then, when I saved an Illustrator file... it would remember the last format I saved (i.e., eps or svg) and would continue saving as that format until I changed it. Now... it is always defaulting to an ai file. Is there a way to chane that? I don't recall if I did it on purpose before, but I liked it that way... and would like to have that feature back.

Thanks so much!

When using "Save as", it needs to save the native file format. That has been changed in the previous version which for some people led to data loss. SO it has been changed back. .AI is the only native file format and therefore should be the default.

Thanks for the info. I'm disappointed, as I really liked it saving in the format I last saved it... it saves me time. But if it was leading to data loss, then I understand why it had to be changed back. Hopefully that's something Adobe can fix in the future.

Hello @DigitalChickster,

Our team has attempted to fix this issue in the latest Illustrator v30 release. Could you try updating Illustrator to the latest version (https://adobe.ly/43uCr9b) and letting us know if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @DigitalChickster,

Thanks for bringing this up and for sharing the details. I tested this behavior on my end and noticed the same. I've shared this with our product team to confirm whether it's an intentional change or an unexpected regression. I'll update you here as soon as I have more information.

Appreciate your patience and for flagging this!
